Wrigley's Doublemint Gum 'Forever' Commercial

Featuring Chris Brown's "Forever" Song

Once again Kistunes, the app designed to find & match the name of the songs used by commercials, is going back into time for a classic commercial ad. The commercial request came from one of our readers regarding the Wrigley's Doublemint Gum 'Forever' Commercial featuring the singer, dancer and actor Chris Brown. This ad was originally aired back in the year 2007-08.

The Tune That Became A Hit

There have numerous instances where a song is recorded specifically for an advert and the song ends up becoming a huge hit. Such is the case with this tune used in the Doublemint gum commercial. Initially, when the  Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company wanted to promote their gum, they set out to hire Chris Brown as a way to boost their sales and appeal to younger audiences. Mr Brown set out to write the song 'Forever' for the commercial. When the ad was released, everyone was soon singing the tune to the song. In the ad and the song we hear Chris belt out the lyrics "Double your pleasure/double your fun,". In the coming months, the singer ended adding new lyrics and recording the new rendition of the 'Forever'  song. After they made it available for digital download and released the song to radio stations, it became an instant hit. The song even eventually reached No. 4 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart.

A Successful Campaign Goes Awry

The makers of Doublemint gum never imagined (or perhaps they did) that the song would end up becoming such a huge pop hit. Having an artist of Chris Brown's stature quip their famous and well known motto in his hit song of doubling your pleasure was a bonus. That meant that every time the song played on the radio or anywhere, the quote was repeated and heard. Ironically though, the success of the campaign ad was soon marred by some personal problems the singer ended up having with his then girlfriend and singer Rihanna. The domestic violence incident caused so much drama and negative publicity on the news and on social media that Doublemint ended the contract with Mr Brown soon after the incident. Nevertheless, they still had a great commercial and a hit song to go with their ad.

The Star Power Of Chris Brown

The commercial itself is very well done as it uses some great visual effects which are emboldened by Chris Brown's dancing and movements. Although the ad is really quite simple in terms of mimicking a music video, it is still very enjoyable. Although some ads may be old, they can still be enjoyable to watch again as is the case here; especially when the ad features such a talented artist and a great song.
